Hooray for producing your own web show that doesn’t make money or is required to have episodes due to sponsorship agreements! This week we are doing the chill and being complete bums. This has happened before, so this news probably doesn’t freak you out that much, but what you should know is that next week may prove to be completely awesome.
And why will next week be awesome? What can make such a mundane, hot, smelly week in August possibly the best thing ever? Three new movies that all have high hopes for awesomeness.
The first is based off of a series of comics by Brian Lee O’Malley that has gained quite a lot of attention by fans. Enough attention, you could say, to make a feature film. Hell, the first of the series has four whole stars, FOUR!
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Layabout musician Scott Pilgrim (Cera) falls for the new girl in town, Ramona Flowers (Winstead), but in order to win her heart, he must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends.
I, personally, have no emotional attachment to the film or the series, as I have not read any of them. But everyone tells me that it’s going to be great, so I have no other discourse but to agree at this point. Michael Cera plays the lead role as Pilgrim; let’s hope that he doesn’t simply play Michael Cera as Michael Cera, but we’ll see. At the very least, we will receive a film created as a result of a fresh, newish comic series, and that’s always pretty cool.
Next up is a film that every child that grew up in the 80′s, 90′s, and possibly early 00′s will find to be incredible in one way or the other. What do you get when you combine the talents of every overly-muscled action hero from these decades and throw them all into the same film? You get…
The Expendibles
The fearless Barney Ross (Stallone) leads a team of mercenaries on a mission to South America, where their objective — to overthrow a ruthless dictator — is more dangerous than the men realize.
Let’s just break down that cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, among others. Arnold Schwarzenegger makes at least one appearance in there too. It’s like someone stood up a bunch of action figures on their living room carpet as said: “Yes, this will do nicely.”
And finally, and what I can only assume will be the most visually striking film of the three (sorry Pilgrim), comes…
Tales from Earthsea
Ged, the rebellious son of a blacksmith, learns that his destiny is to become a great sorcerer ever known in Earthsea, a mystical world of hundreds of islands.
This film is directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro Miyazaki but is still coming from Studio Ghibli. I don’t know what it is, but there’s always something amazing when we get to see a new Ghibli film in theaters in America. Unfortunately, like all of these films, it’s on a limited release and I do not know as of this writing if we will actually be able to see it. Luckily, there is one theater in our area that generally always sets aside a screen for Ghibli films so there is a pretty good chance they will this time as well. I’ve contacted the manager of the theater about it and am currently awaiting reply.
That about wraps it up. There will be no poll this week because we’re not shooting a show, and next week we have these three solid films to discuss, so there’s no reason to poll them up. I do hope that all of you are as excited as I am for these films BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BE.

[...] and this is not new news but still good news, the show this week will simply focus on The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim. That should be enough awesome for one week. posted by Garret in Movie News and have No Comments [...]
