The video above is simply Episode 105, but we are testing out a beta version of Longtail’s HTML5 video player. The bandwagon has arrived, people, and we have jumped right on it.

I cannot guarantee that the video will play for you. Safari should be able to handle it; Firefox is still going nutso. It hasn’t been tested in Chrome yet because hitting CTRL+Space, opening an instance of Quicksilver, and hitting CH+Return IS JUST TOO MUCH FOR ME.

We’ll be playing with the code some and updating this post a little bit, but let us know if you can/cannot see anything. Break out the iPhones and iPads!

Update: Chrome seems to get it. iPhone Safari wants to load it, but then decides it’s a bad idea. Not sure why that is just yet. TO THE CODEMOBILE!

Update 2: The only browser right now that is having trouble with the video is Firefox, as it apparently doesn’t really support the straight up HTML5 “Video” tag. Lontail is supposed to fall back on flash when the player doesn’t work correctly, but so far that’s not happening. Taking out all reference to Longtail’s stuffs makes it so that it works in Safari (on i-devices too) and Chrome. I will need to research more of the Longtail code to see what the problem is. Oh, and if you’re using Internet Explorer it would be wise to simply throw your computer out of the window.

Update 3: I have half a mind to simply only use HTML5 video and have the old flash version pop up in a lightbox. Until this beta thinger gets OUT of beta and maybe works a little better. At the end of the day the Jilion HTML5 player looks really cool and once it’s released we may just use that. It’s sexy sexy.
