If you enjoy survivalist, apocalyptic literature involving zombies, check out World War Z. It’s a well-written and explicit oral history of a future war against zombies.
Also, OU’s policy while I was in the dorms (a whole 5 years ago) was don’t ask/don’t tell. Routers were not allowed, but our IT staff new they were largely harmless and very useful.
I can’t say what they’re doing now. All I know is that they’ve switched the e-mail from a Sun-based custom solution to an Exchange server, so I imagine things are going downhill.
They just have no idea what they’re doing here. They accused one of my RAs of stealing a user name and pass from one of the residents in my dorm. What really happened was that the resident had just signed on through my RA’s router. And when he went to ask “campus tech” about it, they told him that that wasn’t possible; that only one of three options could have happened: 1.) my RA stole his information and logged on, 2.) the resident physically went into his room and logged on, or 3.) my RA bought a stolen router with this resident’s information on it. None of these happened, and the third choice isn’t even possible. The guy who works here must be best friends with Ted Stevens because he somehow has a position of power dealing with the networking but has no idea what that word even means.
