Can we get enough American Gods? Nope. Now there’s a TV show.

We may or may not have had a post recently about the 10th anniversary of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, a novel we discussed on Episode 70. Now here’s some more news to shove down your brainpipe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, none other than Tom Hanks’s (Hanx) production studio will be producing a television series based on the story.

I started watching: Full Metal Alchemist

Today is the first day of a column I am going to call “I started watching.” With the ease of the Netflixes and the Hulus and whatnot, catching up on shows you thought you would never get a chance to see is far easier than ever. This column will not necessarily be a ful review of a show but just some initial thoughts after watching a few episodes. For our inaugural post, let’s discuss a show that until now I thought made no sense and probably was just shlock made for kids: Full Metal Alchemist.

Pretend you are a detective with Sherlock [Netflix]

If you are like me and believe that cable is the most evil of institutions, then you also sometimes have to settle for catching television shows a little later than others. The good thing is that you are fine with that. Netflix and Hulu end up with everything you need. Well, friends, Netflix has helped us out once again by picking up a finely produced BBC series hot and fresh and ready to stream. This time it’s the 21st century retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s smarmiest of characters, Sherlock Holmes, in Sherlock.

Hulu Plus on the Xbox is ok, but I’ll be damned to say it’s better than the PS3 version

The title here says it all, folks, but I suppose elaborating on it is in order. You see, last Friday, after a few months of PS3 exclusivity, the Xbox 360 was graced with its own ballyhooed Hulu Plus application, complete with Kinect support. But even though it’s chock full of magical technology that allows you to wave your hand at the unblinking, soulless eye of the Kinect, the app leaves something to desire, especially for us that have access to both systems.

Netflix tells cable to “suck it,” in talks to broadcast original series first

Oh Netflix, how do we love thee? Let me count the ways: a huge film and TV selection with both streaming content and DVDs, two day turn-around on mailing said DVDs, and a sexy red background. Well now Netflix could be getting even more awesome as they seek to premiere a brand new television series via their streaming service before any other outlet has a chance to show it, a first for the company. And do you want to know who is involved? Kevin Spacey and David Fincher.

Official HBO Game of Thrones poster revealed, is awesome

In our ongoing efforts to fawn over everything in and around the world of The Song of Ice and Fire, on his blog, website, online journal thing entitled “Not A Blog,” George R. R. Martin just revealed the official Game of Thrones poster that accompanies the looming HBO series. And it is, of course, wicked cool, yo.

I am sorry Adrien Brody, but I hate this commercial [zotzotZOT]

If you are anything like me, Hulu is one of your daily resources for media. And what a fine service it is; on demand viewing is where it’s at, and I will punch anyone who says otherwise. To sustain their level of goodness, they insert ads here and there and everything was fine. That is, until Stella Artois bought up seemingly every ad Hulu has played for the last few weeks.

Nickelodeon does something awesome, greenlights Avatar: The Legend of Korra

I am going to let you in on a little secret. My favorite television show ever is Avatar: The Last Airbender. You can come up to me with any other show, trying to tell me how great that show may be, and I will simply say: “Well, does that show have earth bending?” And then you will say, “No.” And then I will say, “Well, in that case, it’s not a better show.” It’s just a fact of life that Avatar: tLA reigns supreme.

Today, Nickelodeon announces they have pulled the giant “Yes” lever in their corporate offices to allow for the new Avatar series The Legend of Korra. HOLY CRAP.
