Netflix splits own service, creates Qwikster, hassle

What the who what‽ In a Sunday blog post, the CEO of Netflix has announced and confirmed that the streaming and DVD services from Netflix will forever hence be split into two entities. The streaming will continue to be called “Netflix,” while DVDs by mail will be sent from a new place called Qwikster. Yep, because when my mom wants to get a DVD online, having her learn the name of a new service and website is exactly what Netflix needs right now to build confidence among the masses.

I started watching: New Girl

The fall lineup is upon us, and one of the first out of the gate comes from that little company called Fox. The show is entitled New Girl, and stars Zooey Deschanel along with three bros that you probably haven’t seen. You would think the show could probably work based solely on the actress, even without knowing the basic plot. BUT THAT MIGHT NOT BE THE CASE.

I started watching: Thundercats (reboot, HOOOOOOO!)

“Reboot.” The very word sends chills down my spine, and not only because of the mid-90s computer animated show that used to air during Saturday mornings. When you come to me and tell me that a show from the 80s is returning using all manner of buzzwords, I will usually spit in your face and kick you in the shin. That said, out of morbid curiosity, I will generally take an hour from my life that I would otherwise throw away doing something even more useless like exercising and give one of these childhood ruining reboots a chance. And rarely, very rarely, the show actually turns out to be good. Enter Thundercats, the 2011 reboot of the 1984 classic.

Mad Men now on Netflix Streaming [quick note]

This is going to be the quickest of Quick Notes because the title, as they say, says it all. You can now watch seasons one through four of Mad Men on the Netflix without having to bother with those pesky discs and those dreadful mail slips. It is better content like this that might just ease the pain of those recent price changes. Right? RIGHT?

Avatar: The Legend of Korra Comic-Con trailer and news. Get pumped.

Today certainly is one of the best days. Over the weekend, a trailer for The Legend of Korra came to light at that nerdy mcnerd-nerd show Comic-Con. It’s only a bit over a minute long, but it rocks the house all the same. Did I mention Korra rides a snow-bear? A SNOW-BEAR. I guess in Avatar-world it would probably be called a dog-bear or something, but because I am so excited, for now it’s a snow-bear.

We all love A Game of Thrones, and Comic-Con has George R. R. Martin and Co. talking’ ’bout it [quick note]

Man, The Song of Ice and Fire is one giant stack of books. There are five books in this series so far, and SPOILERS there will probably be more. But we are getting ahead of ourselves. This week happens to be host to the Mecca of nerddom: Comic-Con, and because A Game of Thrones – the HBO version – is such a good show, Ser George of Martin and some of the cast sat down to talk about show stuffs.

I would feel like a total dong to simply steal quotes from the people who wrote the piece, so I will instead use what the internet calls a Hypertext Link, and send you merrily on your way to read this Kotaku article with all of the tasty bits (beware of minor spoilers). Within you will find fun anecdotes, and if you have any idea what “R.W.” stands for in the books, you will get some interesting info on how George feels about all that. I felt a chill while remembering all that dastardly business.

Like Netflix so much you want to pay double for it? Now you can!

Good news for people that have too much money: soon you will be able to pay nearly twice the amount you once did for the same Netflix service! It’s such a great deal for loyal customers, I am going to put SO MANY exclamation points at the end of this sentence!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carl Sagan’s Cosmos series makes me want to learn ALL THE THINGS

Arriving woefully late to the party is generally a bad thing: everyone has already had their hands in the dip, and you missed out on telling the overzealous host, “You know, that sounds great, but I don’t know if I can play Apples to Apples with this drink in my hand.” Luckily, arriving late to television shows brings none of these pitfalls, and while Cosmos first aired thirty years ago, it still holds power to someone just finding out about it today.

I don’t always link to the Daily Show, but when I do it’s because Louis C.K. is on [quick note]

Louis C.K. was on The Daily Show this week to discuss the second season of his FX show Louis, and in doing so describes the hilarity of a fart in a way that only my college friend Dan could. That makes no sense to anyone that doesn’t know Dan, but trust me, Dan is all about this fart deconstruction.

Watch this, and be happy.
