Ah, the Fourth of July. It’s a great time of the year when we all go out and light things that end up exploding. It’s also the time of year when the biggest of the big summer popcorn films come out to amaze the masses. For this episode, we discuss that big film, and we nitpick the crap out of it!

Buckle your seat belts. Usually we are pretty nice with discussing films that we might not enjoy, but that might not be the case this time with Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Around this film we also discuss the novel Donnie Brasco: Unfinished Business and the movie The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Episode 126: The Late-isode

Episode 125: Sequels Are Worthless

Video games and movies are vastly different things, we all know that. This distinction is ever apparent in the way sequels are handled between both media. For video games, a chance to come back for one more usually means the addition of many gameplay elements and the ability to expound on an established story. For films, it’s generally used as a great way to make a quick buck, as we have seen this week.

This week Joe discusses Sweet Hereafter: A Novel, I talk about Sherlock, and we both discuss The Hangover Part II. There also might be a bonus trailer thrown into the mix. MAYBE. Maybe there is one. Who knows?

Episode 124: The End of the World

Well, we might have successfully escaped the wrath called upon us by people who thought the world would end (after the third or fourth time he predicted the same thing), but that doesn’t mean we as humans can’t go ahead and destroy the world on our own! No special help needed. This week we watch one of the most depressing films ever.

Since it’s the end of the month, we have eschewed the normal voting schedule and watched a film down at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The film we chose is called Into Eternity, a documentary about what to do with hundreds of thousands of tons of nuclear waste.

Episode 123: Blustery

Our third and possibly last (for a while) foray to the Botanical Gardens in OKC was met with a somewhat warm reception from the populace: a security guard told us we couldn’t step in the flower beds, even if that meant getting a better shot. He was nice about it, though. Somebody give that guy a medal.

Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen is the book up for discussion this week, and I get to talk about not only a small tribe of elite runners in Mexico, but also SCIENCE. All of us watch Bridesmaids, and we all don’t remember everyone who is in it. And finally, Joe discusses the film Somewhere and attempts to sell to us that a slow zooming shot that lasts three minutes can be interesting.

Episode 122: Hammer of Justice

Unlike the week prior, downtown Oklahoma City was not ripe with activity when we filmed. It was basically deserted. We did, however, manage to find a security guard at the park that had opinions about Thor. Apparently Thor is just a demi-god, so he doesn’t have to have emotions. Now you know.

Joe handily talks about Peter & Max: A Fables Novel, we both discuss Thor, and I mistakenly watch Salt.
