This Movie Excites Me

Why, you may ask, would this movie excite me? I don’t really know. It just looks really funny and heartfelt, something I haven’t been able to see in some time at the theatre. That is a real problem with having to seeblockbusters all of the time; you can lose out on the chance to see all of the little things. That and living in Oklahoma.

No voting this week because no one wants to go up against X-Men.

Normally, early in the week we would post something regarding voting on what film we should see during the following weekend. Not this week. It turns out that other films are too scared of what comes out this weekend to even try and compete. There certainly are a few limited release films showing in more fancy cities than my own, but for wide release it’s only one: X-Men: First Class I just shook my 8-ball to see what the headlines about the film will be come next week, and it came back with: “It’s a juggernaut, bitch!”

Episode 125: Sequels Are Worthless

Video games and movies are vastly different things, we all know that. This distinction is ever apparent in the way sequels are handled between both media. For video games, a chance to come back for one more usually means the addition of many gameplay elements and the ability to expound on an established story. For films, it’s generally used as a great way to make a quick buck, as we have seen this week.

That Jimmy did it [Amazon coup]

Well, he did it. Ol’ Jimmy “slick jacket” Fallon shot up to the top of the charts over at Amazon with his fancy tricks. I, for one, congratulate him on this. The ever better news is that that ESPN book has dropped to number 3*.

If you would like to see what the book is all about, you can check it out right here.

*I am sure that that book is great.

Pixar Apparently Afraid of Women

If you are like me, you have never seen this woman before, which is not to say that you don’t know her work.  Brenda Chapman has been working in animation for quite a while and recent events have brought her name to the forefront of a very interesting discussion.

Now We Can See Osama Killed for Fake!

That is Kathryn Bigelow, and thanks to her undying need to be on the inside of awesome military jobs, we can now anticipate a feature length movie about the plan and success of taking out Osama bin Laden.

I, for one, bow down to our new ebook overlords

It’s finally happened. After just four years in the mainstream market, it looks like these little electronic, non-tangible books we like to read on our Kindles have finally surpassed that of smelly, old, paper ones, at least, according to Amazon. Read more…

Conan on the Big Screen

Unlike Garret, I wasn’t able to see Conan when he was on tour a while back, but thanks to some awesome documentary filmmakers, it soon won’t matter so much.

Jimmy Fallon attempting an Amazon bestseller coup

We don’t normally discuss the goings on of Twitter here (that’s what the sidebar widget is for!), but this little story is interesting in its potential execution. James T. Fallon, of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon fame, is trying to turn the tides in his favor by crowd-jacking the Amazon bestsellers list.

Movie seems dark? Ebert knows why.

It is no question that we here at P&B hardly give, as they say, “a rat’s ass” or possibly even “two shits” about the newest trend of “3D” films that have been thrust upon us in the last couple of years. They don’t really add much to the experience other than annoyance, and the premium price point can bite it. Well, it turns out that there might just be an interesting side effect other than a lighter wallet: 3D films can make other films dimmer.
