New Tron 2 Trailer?! (a.k.a. The Dude is back for more)

I probably am the only person who shares this view, and I have already been reprimanded by friends and colleagues for it, but the first Tron didn’t strike my fancy as it did others. I probably should have seen it when I was twelve like everyone else, then I might have had a soft spot for it as an adult, but as it is I kind of slept through it.

This is all not to say that this new, fancy Tron will be a bad film. Oh no, sir. It may very well be a good movie. The trailer above gives us a little more light into the main character’s daddy issues, while showing us that The Dude has a doppelganger in computerland. There will be hijinx, I can feel it. Let’s just hope that RAM returns (even though he kind of gets erased in the first film…twenty-eight years ago.) Hey, they could have rewritten the program, right?

At the MPS 07/30/10

Another week shows up with a few new films to watch. After last week’s surprise of adorableness that was Ramona and Beezus, can this week possibly keep up? At least Salt ended up being a worthless film, so I hear. I sure am glad we didn’t have to see that.

Nickelodeon does something awesome, greenlights Avatar: The Legend of Korra

I am going to let you in on a little secret. My favorite television show ever is Avatar: The Last Airbender. You can come up to me with any other show, trying to tell me how great that show may be, and I will simply say: “Well, does that show have earth bending?” And then you will say, “No.” And then I will say, “Well, in that case, it’s not a better show.” It’s just a fact of life that Avatar: tLA reigns supreme.

Today, Nickelodeon announces they have pulled the giant “Yes” lever in their corporate offices to allow for the new Avatar series The Legend of Korra. HOLY CRAP.

I do not really even have the words to describe what is coming out. All I can do at this point is describe – using words – how I have no words to describe the new films this week. It’s quite the predicament that we are in, really.

Reading test: Electronic stuff vs. books

A study posted at useit.com, focusing on reading speeds, has pitted our heroes (iPads and Kindles) against their nemesis: the printed page. It’s a study that we’ve all wanted to see; these two sets of media battling it out in a colosseum while a wizened scroll looks on from shadowy booth high among the crowd. The two fight for hours, bits of pages and plastic blowing absently in the wind. There is a hush; the scroll lifts a shaking hand, and with a sudden motion that belies his age: thumbs down. One warrior does not leave the ring.

But this is about reading speeds and satisfaction. How do all of these things stack up?

The Wire: Damn you McNulty!

Many years have passed since the start of my membership with Netflix. Having seen multitudes of films and television shows (according to the site I’ve rated 688 titles), from that mash Netflix conveniently told me one day that I “might like The Wire.” So I clicked on the “Sure, whatever, send me this show and I will watch it” button, which otherwise is know as the “Add” button. It was not a bad decision.
